Chateau Nabise Wines

Nabise owner, Nazih Metni, has chosen the name of his wine as a French variant of Nabeeth, Arabic for wine, a fitting name for a micro-winery with its a two hectare vineyard planted on church land in Rechmaya in Mount Lebanon, near the summer resort of Aley. Metni owns and runs Nabise with his wife May.

At the vineyard as well at the winery, we use traditional methods to provide natural wines that fully express the terroire of  Rechmaya in Mount Lebanon which has gravelly and clay limestone soils with a temperate climate. Since 1998 we planted and cultivated this vineyard of 2ha with french grape varieties

Started in 1999, it is the culmination of a passion for Metni, who first began making wine long ago as hobby, experimenting with a Boots wine making kit brought to him by his father in law from London. It was a hobby that entered a new dimension when Metni, a respected Lebanese architect by training, decided to make it his full time occupation. In 2002 his first harvest yielded four tons of grapes with which he produced 3000 bottles of his Chateau. Already at this stage he called for an experimented French oenologue to implement and monitor the winemaking process.

Six years on, the Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah for the Chateau Nabise red are now going strong, while Metni has planted an adjacent plot with a selection of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and a little Muscat for the whites.
